Columbia Regional Airport to break ground on runway improvements
Columbia Regional Airport will soon break ground on its Runway Safety Enhancement Project, which involves rebuilding and lengthening runway 13-31.
The runway will go from being 75 feet wide and 4,400 feet long to 100 feet wide and 5,500 feet long.
The city expects work to start in the next few weeks.
ABC 17 News reported back in October when the FAA awarded the city and airport an $11.1 million grant to fund 90 percent of the project. The remaining 10 percent will be funded through the local transportation sales tax. It’s expected to cost $12.32 million.
The city expects the project to be finished in the summer of 2017.
