Camden County man sentenced to 19 years for voluntary manslaughter

Camden County Prosecuting Attorney Michael J. Gilley announced Monday that David W. Smith is sentenced to 19 years of incarceration in the Missouri Department of Corrections by Camden County Circuit Judge Kenneth Hayden.

Smith pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and to abandonment of a corpse. Smith admitted to shooting and killing Shawn Spencer in April 2006 at Smith’s residence on Silver Mountain Drive in Camdenton. The investigation surrounding the disappearance and killing of Shawn Spencer began when Spencer went missing in April of 2006. Smith was arrested on June 9, 2015 for the killing of Spencer.

Smith received a 15 year sentence for voluntary manslaughter and four years for abandonment of a corpse, with the sentences to run consecutive for a total of 19 years. Smith received the maximum sentence for each count.
