UPDATE: Driver in Brown School Road crash had BAC twice the legal limit

UPDATE 11/25: Both vehicles had been going westbound on Brown School Road when the vehicle driven by Krista Ward struck the passenger side of the the second vehicle. Ward’s vehicle left the north side of the roadway, striking a light pole and came to rest in a culvert. The second vehicle left the south side of the roadway and came to a rest in the grass after striking the median.

Three people from Ward’s car had moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital, and two people from the second vehicle had moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Ward had a seven year old child in her vehicle that was not hers.

Ward had a blood alcohol level of .165%. She was arrested for four counts of second disagree assault with a bond of $18,000, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child with a bond of $4,500.

UPDATE 11:20 p.m.: Crash investigators say alcohol did play a factor into the crash that sent five people to the hospital.

The cause of the crash is still unknown. The Columbia Police Department Crash Investigators say they need to continue to talk with witnesses and victims.

Brown School Road is back open.

Boone Electric Cooperative is on scene repairing the utility pole that was knocked down.

ORIGINAL: Five people, including a child, were taken to the hospital after a two-car crash in north Columbia Thursday night.

The crash happened around 9:15 p.m. at the intersection of Rangeline and Brown School Road.

ABC 17 News crews on scene saw one car in an embankment. Police said the other car hit a light pole and overturned.

Emergency responders shut down Brown School Road while they cleared the scene.

The Columbia Police Department, Columbia Fire Department, Boone County Fire Protection District, University Hospital Ambulance and Boone Hospital Ambulance all responded to the crash.
