Residents share safety concerns after Pinehurst Lane shooting

Residents in the area of Pinehurst Lane tell ABC 17 News they’re concerned about their safety after Sunday night’s shooting.

Just before 10 p.m., law enforcement responded to reports of a shooting in the 5500 block of Pinehurst Lane. No one was hurt, but one car and one home were both hit by bullets.

Some residents were surprised to hear of the shooting, and many believe the violence stems from the nearby Demaret Drive and Clark Lane. The numbers agree–crime reports indicate there hasn’t been a single violent crime reported on Pinehurst Lane in the past 11 months.

“It’s a good neighborhood. A lot of kids around here. Never had any problems that I’m aware of. This kind of stuff to go on is not really common out here,” resident Tina Bealmear tells ABC 17 News, “I hope they find out what’s going on and where it’s coming from. I don’t believe it’s coming from out here.”

Detective Tom O’Sullivan with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department tells ABC 17 News they don’t believe this is a “random act.”

He says deputies have a pretty good idea of who’s going around and committing these shootings.

The incident on Pinehurst Lane comes on the heels of a Saturday night shooting in the area of Vandiver and Rangeline as well as a homicide on Kathy Drive in Columbia.
