Crews battle fire in eastern Cole County

Emergency crews were battling a house fire in eastern Cole County Friday night.

The call went out for the 10000 block of Marina Road around 8:30 p.m.

Dozens of units from Osage Fire Protection District and Westphalia Fire Protection District were on scene fighting the fire.

Firefighters said the home was fully engulfed when they arrived on scene. A man and a woman were home at the time of the fire, but were able to make it out safely.

Fire officials said Friday night’s high winds made it difficult to put out the fire. At one point, the fire spread to a tree and down to the Osage River. Crews remained on scene until about midnight.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.

Cole County EMS and the Cole County Sheriff’s Department were also on scene Friday night.
