Trial date set for man charged in infant son’s death

Christopher Buxton, 30, appeared in Moniteau County court Friday morning for a case review hearing. The judge scheduled a jury trial to begin on Jan. 13.

Buxton was formally charged in August with second-degree murder after his 2 1/2-month-old son died at Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia.

Doctors determined the infant had numerous broken bones and was bleeding internally, injuries court documents said were consistent with a child being shaken. Buxton told authorities the injuries were not an accident, and that he, his wife and his roommate were the only ones who could have caused those injuries.

Buxton told authorities he knew neither his wife nor roommate hurt the child, but denied causing the injuries himself.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Buxton at his home on Aug. 3, he and has been in custody at the Moniteau County jail.
