Jefferson City leaders, residents talk stormwater strategy

Leaders in Jefferson City held a town hall meeting over the weekend to hear from residents about the city’s infrastructure needs.

Fourth Ward councilmen Glen Costales and Carlos Graham hosted the meeting. along with Jefferson City Public Works director Matt Morasch.

Residents discussed the flash floods in August and September and the damage that was left behind.

Notably, the Washington Park Ice Arena closed in September after flash flooding caused more than a half million dollars in damage.

“The damage from the storms was not just in the Fourth Ward, it was all over the city,” said Costales.

Costales said many residents in the Fourth Ward are now calling for more than $30 million in new infrastructure funding, including a possible “user fee.” Such a fee would need the approval of voters rather than just the city council.
