MU Cannabis Conference hoping to bring medical marijuana to Missouri
A marijuana activist group is gathering at Mizzou today, celebrating the states that recently legalized recreational and medicinal marijuana.
They’ll also be discussing how to get marijuana reform on the ballot in Missouri in 2018.
On Tuesday, Maine, Massachusetts, California and Nevada voted to approve recreational marijuana use. They join Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Colorado as states which have fully legalized the drug.
Medical marijuana initiatives also passed Tuesday in Arkansas, Florida, North Dakota and Montana.
This year, there was no marijuana initiative on the Missouri ballot. The proposal failed to go to Missouri voters due to an insufficient number of signatures on the petition.
Cannabis conference attendees will be strategizing today in hopes of getting medical marijuana on the Missouri ballot in 2018.
Speakers at the conference will include Jeff Mizanskey, the Sedalia man who was sentenced to life without parole for marijuana until Governor Nixon pardoned that conviction, Tom Mundell, a Vietnam war vet and current Commander of the Missouri Association of Veterans’ Organizations, as well as registered nurses, physicians, professors and patients who all support the legalization of medical marijuana.
