Mid-Missouri organization collects donations for Dakota Access Pipeline protesters

A donation rally was held at Cooper’s Landing in south Columbia Saturday to raise money to send supplies to people protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota.

The event was hosted by Protectors of Water and Land, a mid-Missouri Native American group.

Organizers said the purpose of the event was to bring together concerned citizens who want to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. People were encouraged to bring gift cards for Lowe’s, Home Depot and other building stores.

Right now, protesters at the Standing Rock camps are working to build shelters in preparation for the winter. Local groups will be traveling to North Dakota every few weeks to drop off supplies.

Organizers said about 200 people came to Saturday’s event to show their support.
