Koster concedes to Greitens in Missouri Governor race

RESULTS: Chris Koster has conceded to Eric Greitens in the race for Missouri Governor.

Missouri voters are casting their votes Tuesday to elect the state’s 56th governor, because current Gov. Jay Nixon, who was first elected in 2008, has reached his term limit.

Republican candidate Eric Greitens has never run for political office. Throughout his campaign, Greitens has called himself a political outsider, which he claims sets him apart from his opponent, current Attorney General Chris Koster.

Greitens is a former Navy SEAL and founder of the veteran nonprofit The Mission Continues. A major part of Greitens’ campaign has been his promise to “clean up Jefferson City.” Greitens said he wants to enforce term limits for elected statewide office and ban lobbyist gifts.

During the primary race, Greitens received $1.975 million, the largest single donation in state history, from Washington, D.C. based super PAC “SEALs for Truth.”

The group said its donors are other Navy SEALs, but federal election records show just one donor to the group. The donor is listed as another obscure group, the American Policy Coalition. It has no registered information with the Federal Elections Commission.

The GOP candidate has been questioned about his campaign finances throughout the election process.

ABC 17 News will have crews at Greitens’ election watch party in Chesterfield, Missouri. We’ll have live reports starting on ABC 17 News at 5 and throughout the night as results come in.
