Two people killed in crash on Hwy. 124

UPDATE: The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the crash victims as 62-year-old Cheryl Kennison and 71-year-old Sally Erickson. According to the crash report, both women were wearing seatbelts.

UPDATE: As of 2:45pm, both lanes of Highway 124 have been reopened to traffic.

ABC 17 News confirmed two women died in northern Boone County Wednesday.

According to the Boone County Fire Protection District, both drivers died in a head-on crash on Highway 124 near Bentwood Lane, just outside Hallsville, about 30 minutes north of Columbia.

It currently appears there are no other passengers involved. One driver had already been declared dead at the scene, and the second driver died while crews were trying to remove her from the car.

First responders on scene told ABC 17 News the highway will be closed for several hours.
