Teen killed in crash on Route Y and Route M in Cole County identified
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has identified the driver killed in a Monday afternoon crash in Cole County.
It happened on Route Y and Route M just after 4:30 p.m.
According to the Highway Patrol, 17-year-old Travis Adam of Jefferson City crossed the center line and struck a second vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 15-year-old Alexa Noblett was life-flighted to University Hospital. She is in serious condition.
The driver of the second vehicle, Braydon Holtmeyer, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
Emergency crews blocked off both lanes of Route M. Crews cleared the scene and reopened the highway to traffic shortly after 7:00 p.m.
Several nearby residents told ABC 17 News they had seen multiple crashes and close calls near the intersection of Route Y and Route M.
The speed limit on both roads is 50 miles an hour, but some residents said they thought it should be lowered.
Others said they thought the problem was the lack of signage leading up to the intersection.
“They need a ‘stop sign ahead’ down here because people don’t realize when they’re flying 50 miles an hour they’ve got a stop sign right there,” resident Mary Hathman said. “And so I mean I just hear people squealing their tires constantly.”
