Columbia motel robbed at gunpoint; suspect still at large
UPDATE 10/24/16: Columbia Police say there are no updates on their investigation. ABC 17 News also dug into crime at various Columbia motels, many of which have become a hotbed for criminal activity. At a recent meeting, police told us they are aware of the issue and they’re actively working to fight it.
Columbia police tell ABC 17 News the Suburban Extended Stay Motel was robbed at gunpoint Saturday night.
The 911 call was made by a hotel employee at 8:43 p.m.
Police said the suspect was wearing all black and had a mask and gloves on. They saID he demanded money from the hotel employee and displayed a handgun.
Police say the robber got away with an unknown amount of money and ran from the area. CPD used a K-9 to track the man, but the trail ended in a parking lot nearby. Officers said that typically can mean the person got into a vehicle and left.
Police said there is security footage of the armed robbery they will be reviewing for their investigation.
This call is just one of many law enforcement have been handling this weekend with more people and traffic in town for Mizzou’s homecoming. A sergeant at the scene told ABC 17 News they have a full staff working this weekend.
