Mizzou embarrassed in homecoming game with 51-45 loss to Middle Tennessee

COLUMBIA- Middle Tennessee broke out for 584 yards of total offense and made a key fourth down stop with less than a minute in the game to beat Missouri 51-45. Middle Tennessee’s 51 points are the most Mizzou has ever allowed in a homecoming game.

The Blue Raiders also gave the Tigers their first home loss to a non-Power 5 team since joining the SEC in 2012.

Mizzou’s offense shined for most of the game. Freshman running back DaMarea Crockett finished with 156 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Crockett is the first Mizzou true freshman to score four touchdowns in a game. He is also the fifth Tiger ever to have at least four rushing touchdowns in a game.

Mizzou led 35-34 in the fourth quarter after Crockett scored his fourth rushing touchdown. Middle Tennessee quarterback Brent Stockstill found I’Tavius Mathers for a 3-yard touchdown to take a 41-35 lead over Missouri. In a game that featured six lead changes, Mizzou could only cut its deficit to three points in the fourth quarter.

After finding Ray Wingo for a fourth quarter touchdown, Drew Lock missed his last five passes, which include the failed fourth down conversion with less than 15 seconds left in the game.

Michael Scherer, Terry Beckner Jr., Jason Reese, Thomas Wilson and John Gibson all left the game with injuries. Barry Odom said he did not know the severity of their injuries immediately after the game.

Mizzou hosts Kentucky on October 29th. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
