Police officer being treated after vehicle crash on Walnut and Sixth

UPDATE 1:33 p.m.: Shannon Thomas, 45, of Columbia was making a left turn from Sixth Street onto Walnut Street when Thomas struck Officer Curtis Brown, 48, of Columbia. Brown was knocked to the ground and transported to University Hospital for minor injuries.

Thomas was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.

UPDATE 10:06 a.m.: The police officer was conscious when taken to University Hospital. ABC 17 News will continue to follow this story.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Columbia police officer is currently being treated at Walnut Street and Sixth Street after a vehicle crash Friday morning.

Details of the crash are still unknown, but ABC 17 News has confirmed that there are multiple police and EMT units on scene treating the police officer who is laying in the street. The officer was on-duty at the time of the crash.

The crash happened in front of the police station. Both roads have been blocked off and there is an ambulance on scene.
