Residents speak out against proposed development

Entrepreneurs Enterprises LLC, a Kansas City real estate company, proposed a new housing development called East McCarty lofts.

The company is looking to build the 50-unit apartment complex in the 700 block of its namesake street in Jefferson City, but many residents aren’t too thrilled about the plan.

“One of the biggest objections is the size of the units, and the fact that we’d have 50 new kids at East Elementary School,” said local business owner Donna Deetz. “The only thing they are looking at is market value, and that doesn’t tell you the whole story of the east side.”

The company applied for tax credit through the Missouri Housing Development Commission, as 41 of the 50 units in the planned complex will be classified as “affordable,” or targeted at low-income families.
