Columbia Police looking for shooter after multiple reports of gunfire
UPDATE, 11:15 a.m.: Columbia police confirm they responded to several incidents involving gun shots early Saturday morning.
At 12:32 a.m., officers were called to Garth Avenue and Sexton Road in reference to shots fired. Officers found a new bullet hole in the yard of a residence in the 100 block of Sexton Road. There were no reported injuries or further property damage.
At 1:39 a.m., officers were called to the 1900 block of Newton Drive for shots fired. Officers found a home that had been hit multiple times by bullets. There were no reported injuries.
At 2:37 a.m., officers were sent to the 1400 block of Worley Street in reference to shots heard. Officers determined shots had been fired in the area. There were no reported injuries or property damage as a result of the gunfire.
At 2:39 a.m., officers and Boone County Sheriff’s deputies in the area of Clark Lane and Ballenger Lane heard multiple rounds of gunfire. After searching the area, officers were not able to find a scene and there were no reported injuries or property damage.
Columbia detectives are investigating these incidents to determine if they are related.
A light colored sedan was seen in the area of some of these shots fired incidents, but police have not determined if it was the same vehicle at all scenes.
ORIGINAL STORY: Right now, Columbia Police are looking for at least one shooter after receiving multiple reports of gunfire across Columbia.
According to dispatch records the gun shots reportedly started around 12:30 a.m. at Garth and Sexton. This is the same location where a home was hit with bullets Thursday night and a woman was hit while driving her car Friday morning.
At 1:37 a.m, there was a call to Newton Drive for shots fired. ABC 17 News heard reports a home was hit several times with bullets.
At 2:35 a.m., police responded to West Worley for a call about shots heard.
At 2:39 a.m., police responded to Clark Lane and Ballenger for a shots fired call.
ABC 17 News saw law enforcement in the area of Ballenger, Clark Lane, and Rice Road reportedly looking for a vehicle that may have been involved in the reported shootings. A sergeant couldn’t confirm if or how that car was related.
At the moment, it’s unclear if there are any injuries.
ABC 17 News looked through police dispatch records around the Ballenger/Rice Road area. We found several calls for shots heard and one for shots fired. However, according to Columbia police, these incidents were cleared after officers investigated.

– 09/04/16: Shots heard near Rice and Ballenger (no evidence found)
