Trial set for 2017 in Ozarks drowning case

The trial for a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper accused in a drowning is now set for next year.

Trooper Anthony Piercy is scheduled to go on trial May 1, 2017. He’s accused of involuntary manslaughter in the death of 20-year-old Brand Ellingson at the Lake of the Ozarks in May 2014.

Ellingson was taken into custody for suspicion of boating while intoxicated. He died after falling off Piercy’s boat and slipping out of a life jacket while handcuffed.
