Residents uneasy after unsolved shooting death
Two months after the shooting death of William “Bill” Crawford in the 1900 block of stadium boulevard, some nearby residents say they’re uncomfortable that a suspect is not in custody.
“You get to the point where you feel unsafe,” said Lee Reifsteck, a stadium boulevard resident. “To try to be a parent and a grandparent and be protective while knowing that there’s bad people out there, it gets scary sometimes.”
Crawford’s death was declared a homicide and is still being investigated by Jefferson City police.
While some residents say investigators could be doing more, Reifsteck says citizens should take more initiative to help police.
“It’s not [police], they’re trying to do everything they can,” Reifsteck said. “There’s other people that might know exactly what happened, and they’re not standing up.”
This unsolved shooting is one of at least six that have occurred in Jefferson City in the last two months.
