Man arrested for allegedly setting man’s truck on fire

A man accused of setting another man’s truck on fire is out of jail after Boone County deputies arrested him on a warrant.

Jason Sutton is charged in Boone County with knowingly burning or exploding and tampering with a motor vehicle.

ABC 17 News confirmed the charges stem from a vehicle fire that happened back in late August.

Police say they responded to the fire around 5:30am back on August 26th in the 2100 block of Meadowvale Court.

Police say when the fire department got on the scene they discovered a 1994 Chevrolet Pickup truck in the driveway of the residence on fire. They say the pickup truck was fully engulfed and also damaged a nearby structure with five people inside.

Police tell ABC 17 News fire crews investigated the fire after putting it out and determined it was set intentionally.

Officers say the owner of the truck reported he had argued the night before with a female subject. The victim said he then started getting threatening text messages from Sutton, who was the female’s prior boyfriend.

Detectives say they looked at the victim’s cell phone messages from Sutton as well as the female subject’s cellular phone messages from Sutton.

They then apparently got a search warrant for Sutton’s cell phone records where they say they found he made threats to burn the male victim’s truck to the ground.

Police say they sent a warrant request was sent to the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office on September first. Boone County deputies tell ABC 17 News they arrested Sutton on Tropical Lane around 3:35 Tuesday afternoon. They say he’s already bonded out of jail.
