Boys & Girls Club breaks ground on multi-million project

The Boys & Girl Club of Columbia broke ground Wednesday afternoon on a multi-million dollar expansion project.

The group’s facility, located at 1200 North 7th Street in Columbia, will be expanded by 14,000 square feet.

It comes at a cost of $2.5 million, funded by donations through the community.

Expansion efforts started after the Boys & Girls Club felt they had to do more to provide a safe and fun place for Columbia teenagers to visit.

The project will include the addition of a ninth through 12th grade teen area, a larger cafeteria, a full size culinary kitchen and a state of the art recording studio.

Construction on the project is expected to wrap sometime in 2017.

The group hopes to open and dedicate the upgraded facility in 2017 to coincide with the Boy & Girls Club’s 20th anniversary in Columbia.
