Rare lunar event on Friday September 30
Ever heard of a Black Moon? Similar to the Blue Moon, which is a full moon that occurs twice within a month, the Black Moon is a new moon that occurs twice within a month. This is a rare lunar event that occurs approximately every 18 months. The next one occurs this Friday on September 30 at approximately 7:11 PM. Skies look to be mostly clear on Friday night, but the moon will not be visible due to earth’s shadow. The last time a Black Moon occurred was in March 2014, and the next one will occur in July of 2019.
