DNR investigates Columbia swim group over dead fish

A Columbia swim organization must take action after it’s accused of draining pool water into a tributary to a creek, killing more than 200 fish.

The Department of Natural Resources, or DNR, released the results of its investigation into the West Broadway Swim Club this month.

The investigation began after a resident contacted the DNR about dead fish behind his home on North Strawn Road.

The DNR said the organization was not in compliance with the clean water commission regulations. It went on to say the organization allegedly dumped 100,000 gallons of chlorinated pool water without a permit – leaving 251 fish dead.

The West Broadway Swim Club must now write a statement by October 19 explaining what they’ve done to fix the issue and keep it from happening again.
