Convicted felon accused of attacking police officers

A convicted felon accused of attacking police officers has been charged in mid-Missouri.

Cole County prosecutors charged David Latham, of Jefferson City, on Tuesday with three counts of third-degree assault against a law enforcement officer and one count of felony resisting arrests.

Court documents show police tried to arrest Latham around 4:30 p.m. Monday night at a home in the 1000 block of McCarty Street in Jefferson City.

When officers tried to take Latham into custody, he reportedly fought police by kicking, grabbing and biting them.

Two officers were hurt in the incident.

Police used pepper spray on Latham after he continued to fight with officers while they tried to place him in the back of a patrol car.

Latham was taken to Capitol Region Medical Center after he admitted to police he swallowed a large amount of meth.

A court date for Latham has not been scheduled.
