Number of deadly crashes rise on Labor Day weekend

As the Labor Day holiday comes to an end, ABC 17 News is looking into the number of crashes that have happened over the holiday weekend over the years.

Statewide crash numbers have stayed in the 200s on Labor Day, except in 2015. In 2010, 236 crashes were reported; in 2011, 254; in 2012, 234; in 2013, 236; in 2014, 242; in 2015, 327.

In Boone County, the number has stayed below the double digits. In 2010, 5 crashes were reported. In 2011, 2; 2012, 6; in 2013, 236; in 2014,242; in 2015, 327. On Tuesday, the patrol confirmed they investigated 299 reports this year between Friday evening and midnight Monday.

In Cole County, yearly numbers stayed below five crashes.

Since the state began counting holiday crashes, 15 people have died on Missouri roadways. During the same time last year, 10 people were killed statewide.
