Severe storms & flash flooding threat Wednesday night.

Storms will move out of Kansas early Wednesday evening as they strengthen ahead of a cold front which is nearly stationary across northwestern Missouri. These storms will move into an environment with ample instability and wind shear as the low level jet stream increases through the evening, pumping moisture into the storms. Strong to severe storms are possible with the best chance north of I-70 but some could track as far south as HWY 50. The greatest threat with storms Wednesday night will be high winds of 60 mph or greater, while some hail and a tornado is not ruled out. (See Related Content)

Also, heavy rain is likely and flash flooding is possible. 1 to 2 inches of rain with locally higher amounts is expected north of I-70. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from 7 AM Wednesday evening to 7 AM Thursday for areas north of I-70.
