Charges filed against suspect in weekend Columbia shooting
The Boone County prosecutor’s office has filed formal charges against the suspect in what police described as an “active shooter” situation over the weekend.
Gary Jolly, 64, faces charges including armed criminal action, burglary, endangering the welfare of a child, domestic assault, and unlawful use of a weapon. His arraignment was scheduled to happen Monday.
Officers say Jolly forced his way into a home on Ballenger Lane on Saturday, and allegedly threatened to kill a woman at the home with whom he had been in a relationship. According to court documents, Jolly shot out a glass patio door, and later fired a gun into a bedroom door while trying to get inside, causing injury to a teenage girl’s hand.
The people inside the home then disarmed and restrained Jolly until police arrived, though Jolly allegedly caused some injuries to the others as he fought to get free. He is still at the Boone County Jail, where he is being held on $1 million bond.
