Gas leak contained in downtown Jefferson City

Electricity is now up and running in downtown Jefferson City, after a gas leak Wednesday morning.

By 12:20 p.m., Ameren Missouri confirmed the area is safe, after surrounding buildings were evacuated near Jackson and High Streets .

Crews from a third-party construction contractor that is not connected with Ameren Missouri drilled into a gas main around 9 a.m. Both gas and electric service were cut off as a precaution until they could contain the leaking pipe.

ABC 17 News is still working to confirm when repairs will be completely finished and gas is restored to nearby customers.
