Man arrested in connection with Thursday shooting on Demaret Drive
Boone County sheriff’s deputies arrested 35-year-old James Hanton Friday in connection with a shooting that sent a man to the hospital Thursday.
According to a press release, deputies went to the 700 block of Demaret Drive after receiving a report about a disturbance involving a gun.
Deputies talked to the victim, who said he and a neighbor got into an argument over the placement of a no-parking sign in front of the apartment building.
The 35-year-old victim said the neighbor shot him in the foot during the argument. He has been discharged from the hospital.
Hanton was arrested on suspicion of armed criminal action and first-degree assault. His bail will be set by a judge.
Deputies said Hanton is a felon who cannot lawfully possess a firearm so he was also arrested for suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm. His bail was set at $4,500 for that charge.
