Coordinators take extra precautions as heat rises for the Show Me State Games
The Show Me State Games is set to start Friday.
With temperatures supposed to be reaching near 100 degrees, heat is the main concern for the weekend events.
Before the events began, event coordinators forewarned people who were planning on attending.
They set up an awareness campaign, where they sent out emails with tips on how to stay safe during the heat.
The last thing coordinators want to do is over exert their athletes. They will have water stations near every outdoor event and planned the schedules so teams will only have to play one game a day or have a large break in-between. During those breaks, coordinators ask for athletes to cool off by getting into air conditioning as soon as they possibly can.
The games have also partnered with University Health Care to provide medical services. There will be ambulance and EMS crews at Cosmo park where lots of the events will be. There will also be athletic trainers for non emergency injuries.
