Police shoot man during domestic assault investigation
A man is recovering from a gunshot wound following a police-involved shooting Wednesday night.
The shooting happened on Patton Street in Sturgeon, where a woman had called 911 to report a man was drunk and attacking her. A Sturgeon police officer was the first to arrive, and according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, shot the suspect when he pointed a gun at the officer.
The suspect was hit in the stomach; his current condition is unavailable. It turns out the weapon he had was a BB gun made to look like a real gun.
This happened half a mile away from where the Boone County Fair is going on. Thursday afternoon, fair organizers released a statement about the shooting, saying it was not related to the fair, which had closed for the night by the time the incident happened. The fair board says none of its employees, vendors, or fairgoers were ever in any danger.
