Severe storms cause damage across Mid-Missouri

A line of severe thunderstorms moved across Mid-Missouri Thursday morning, even spawning what the National Weather Service is calling a tornado in the Hallsville area.

ABC 17 News has been getting damage reports and images from Boone, Randolph, Pettis, Benton, Morgan, Camden, and Cole counties, and are expecting more reports throughout the morning.

We have confirmed widespread power outages in the Moberly area, as well as streets blocked by downed trees and debris in several parts of the city. City public relations official Tristan Asbury says they are waiting for estimates from Ameren UE on how long it will be before power is restored.

Asbury also says there are several places where trees or limbs fell on vehicles. At this point there are no reports of any injuries.

In the Sturgeon area, a barn was knocked down onto Highway CC, blocking the road.

Jim Hodges, the owner of the barn, said he didn’t notice anything until he walked outside. That’s when he noticed the the barn was gone, and as he walked up CC, he found it in the middle of the road.

The road was blocked for about 45 minutes until Hodges used his tractor to get the barn out of the street. The barn cost about $7,000.
