Charles Thompson sentenced to 20 years in prison

Charles Thompson has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following convictions for burglary and a hit-and-run crash.

A judge sentenced Thomson to 15 years for the 2015 burglary during which Johnny Evans was shot and killed. Thompson had been charged with murder and armed robbery in that case, but was acquitted of those charges.

Robert Burks and Vincent Smith were also charged with murder, armed robbery and burglary for Evan’s death, but the first two charges were dropped in exchange for their testimony against Thompson.

Smith and Burks pleaded guilty to burglary and were sentenced to 15 and five years in prison respectively.

In a separate case, Thompson was sentenced to five years for charges connected to a June 2 incident in which Thompson hit another vehicle while driving a car stolen from St. Louis.
