Fireworks complaint leads to drug arrests

A fireworks complaint led to three arrests in Columbia on the Fourth of July.

Police went to the 4400 block of Brunswick Drive just before 10 p.m. Monday.

At the scene, officers said they witnessed Cody McEachern, Jesse McCormack and Brooke Elam exit a car parked on the street.

Police said they saw a loaded syringe and a spoon out in the open on the passenger side floorboard.

During a search of the vehicle, investigators found another syringe in the driver’s seat, marijuana and a loaded gun under the driver’s seat.

A search of McCormarck revealed he was in possession of heroin, police said.

Officers said they also found the gun had been in McEachern’s possession.

The investigation found the weapon had been reported stolen. McEachern is a convicted felon making it illegal for him to have a gun.

McEachern was charged Tuesday in Boone County court with felony possession of a gun.

McCormack was also charged Tuesday with felony drug possession.

Both are being held in the Boone County jail.

Elam was released on a signature summons.
