Heat and humidty returns

Brutal temperatures and humidity are making a comeback for Tuesday. The combination of these hot temps and and high humidity will be bringing our heat index back above 100. In fact, there is a Heat Advisory issued for most of Mid-Missouri on Tuesday, currently excluding the counties of Audrain, Gasconade, Monroe, and Montgomery.

So if you go outside tomorrow between 12 PM and 8 PM and have trouble distinguishing the difference between sweat or your tears from the oppressive heat, that’s because heat indices are projected to get up to 107. If you will be outside tomorrow, stay hydrated, limit your time in the sunshine, and make sure to avoid poorly ventilated areas.

Why are these awful heat indices coming back, you ask? A warm front will be pulling through Mid-Missouri Tuesday morning. Southerly winds and partly cloudy skies are to be expected for the entire day; not to mention the amount the moisture that is still lingering in Mid-Missouri after the buckets of rain from over the weekend. The combination of these three allow for conditions to feel almost unbearable. The sun will warm up our temperatures for the day, those southerly winds will be dragging some moisture from the gulf, and the remaining moisture in Mid-Missouri will aid in keeping our dew points above 70 degrees. Since water can hold more heat, this is why is feels so hot. The more water there is in the air, the more heat our air can hold.
