Flash floods shut down several roads in Mid-Missouri

Heavy rain early Sunday morning caused several Mid-Missouri roads to close due to flooding.

The following roads were affected by floods Sunday morning — many are now back open.

Reports of water over the roadway on Highway 40 near Cunningham Drive. Reports of water over the roadway at Highway 124 West near the Boone County Fire Station at 685 Sexton St. East. Paris Road closed near Whiskey Wild due to flooding. Business Loop at Providence closed due to severe flash flooding. Garth at Sexton closed due to severe flash flooding. Brown School Road closed between Providence and Clearview due to flooding.

Grocery Branch Road at Coats Lane closed

Boone County was under a flash flood warning until 11:15 a.m. According to the public works website, several roads remain closed for flooding until Monday. You can find a list of those closed roads here.

Cooper County Emergency Management was also reporting several road closures due to flooding Sunday morning. Parts of Highway 5 and Highway 87 were shut down around 9:15 a.m. MODOT reported Highway 87 was back open around 2:20 p.m.

The Cooper County Fire Protection District responded to a water rescue on Highway Z Sunday morning. Officials said no one was hurt.

There were at least two water rescues in Columbia early Sunday morning. The first happened around 2:30 a.m. at Garth Avenue and Sexton Road. That area was later shut down for severe flash flooding.

The second happened on East Worley Street around 3:15 a.m.
