Person dies after being hit by car near ABC Laboratories in Boone County

A pedestrian has died following an afternoon crash in the area of 7200 ABC Lane.

Firefighters and medics were on the scene of the incident that happened around 12:30 p.m. when Kiran Lamicchane, 36, was hit by a car east of Columbia, near ABC Laboratories on ABC Lane in Boone County.

Columbia police said in a news release that “alcohol was a contributing factor on the part of the driver,” identified as 56-year-old Ralph Ringer, Jr. of Fulton.

Ringer is currently in the Boone County Jail and facing possible charges of involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene.

According to police, the vehicle was traveling westbound on ABC Lane at the time of the crash, and struck the pedestrian who was walking westbound on the edge of the road. The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital for life threatening injuries, where he later died.

ABC Labs vice president of marketing Kristein King told ABC 17 News that Lamicchane was an employee of the lab.

“We are shocked and saddened by the death of Kiran,” King said in an email to ABC 17 News. “At this time our thoughts our with his family, colleagues and friends. He was was a valued and very much appreciated member of our team, and his loss will be deeply felt throughout our community.”
