No injuries in early morning house fire

The City of Columbia Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of an early morning house fire in Columbia.

The Columbia Fire Department was called out at 1:35 a.m. Friday morning in reference to smoke in a home on 1303 Torrey Pines Drive.

The resident woke up to the smell of smoke and called authorities.

Division Chief Jerry Jenkins with the Columbia Fire Department told ABC 17 News they believe it started around a light fixture in the kitchen.

A press release from the Columbia Fire Department says crews determined there was a fire in the attic space above the kitchen light fixture.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire and smoke within five minutes upon arrival.

There were no injuries during the fire and the damage estimates have not been determined.

In the month of June, City of Columbia dispatch has 31 calls for “structure fires” that the Columbia Fire Department and the Boone County Fire Protection District responded to.
