Victim in possible deadly road rage case identified

Authorities have identified the man who died in a case of possible road rage in Cole County earlier this month as Tom Davis. So far there are still no suspects or motive in the June 13 incident.

The assault happened early in the afternoon near St. Martins, possibly on U.S. 50 or Route T.

The Cole County sheriff’s department was told about the incident on June 16 when the victim’s daughter called to report it. The woman told authorities that her father was in a medically induced coma because of a brain bleed. She told them that she had tried to get her father to file a report before, but he refused.

Authorities told the woman to have her father contact them when he woke up. She called back on June 17 and told authorities that her father was brain dead and on life support. She said the family was going to donate her father’s organs and request an autopsy.

The sheriff’s department said an autopsy was done on Monday, but said it could be weeks before the results are available.

The sheriff’s department said authorities are looking for a heavyset white male, covered in tattoos, wearing a big ring on one hand and driving a blue Ford Taurus.

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating the man’s vehicle and identifying the man.
