1.5 million dollars is donated to a new veterans shelter

UPDATE 12:30 P.M. 6/30-During the ceremony, the Veterans United Foundation donated a record breaking 1.5 million dollars toward the project.

Leaving only $300,000 till the fundraising goal is reached.

The Veterans United Foundation wants veterans off the streets and somewhere where they can call home.

Thursday morning at 10 a.m. a groundbreaking ceremony will be held for a new Veterans homeless shelter.

The facility will offer permanent or short term housing options.

The new emergency shelter will offer 32 temporary beds and be able to provide shelter for female Veterans and families.

The complex will sit on 4.2 acres on the former lot for Deluxe Inn.

The project has already received multiple grants and tax credits from both local and state agencies including the Missouri Housing Department Commission and the City of Columbia.
