Police looking for suspect after armed robbery at Columbia gas station
Columbia police were searching for a suspect early Wednesday after a clerk says he was robbed at gunpoint while on the job in north Columbia.
It happened just before 2:00 Wednesday morning at the Eagle Stop on Providence.
The store clerk told our ABC 17 News crew he was cleaning outside when the suspect came up to him and told him to get inside.
The clerk said the suspect then showed him the gun in his pocket, so the clerk followed him into the store.
The clerk told ABC 17 News that the suspect demanded the clerk open the register and hit the clerk, leaving a cut over his right eye. The suspect then apparently grabbed money and ran off.
The employee says he hit the panic button and says Columbia police arrived within three minutes.
He said the suspect took off on foot and said police found the suspect’s shoe.
Right now, its unclear exactly how much money the suspect took.
Police said they have not made any arrests in the incident.
ABC 17 News is working on getting a suspect description.
The clerk says the man had his face covered with a black mask so he wasn’t able to see him.
