Scottie Willet pleads guilty to first degree murder

UPDATE 6/6, 9:30 a.m :Willet has pleaded guilty to first degree murder. State is not seeking death penalty. He is sentenced to life without parole for the first degree murder and 20 years for the armed criminal action. They will be served consecutively, meaning one sentence after another.

At his hearing, Willet had a black eye; authorities with the department of corrections say he was attacked by another inmate on Sunday. That inmate will be disciplined according to the policies of the Department of Corrections.

ORIGINAL STORY:A case review for a 29-year-old man charged with first degree murder is scheduled for Monday, June 6.

Scottie Willet is charged with multiple felonies in connection to the brutal August 2014 killing of a six year Dayne Hathman.

According to court documents, Willet admitted to shooting the boy multiple times inside a Callaway County home.

Aside from first degree murder, Willet was charged with armed criminal action, receiving stolen property, and tampering with a motor vehicle.

His case review is set for Monday morning at 9 a.m. in Fulton where a pre-trial is scheduled for August 1.

The trial was supposed to begin in September but was delayed when the judge granted a request to change the venue to Boone County.

Willet is currently incarcerated at the Jefferson City Correctional Center.
