Tipton community gathers to celebrate life of 18-year-old killed Saturday night

A community gathered to remember 18-year-old Robert Ashbaugh at Tipton Lake Tuesday night.

Ashbaugh was killed Saturday night in Tipton around 11:20 p.m. He was found dead from a single gunshot wound.

Preliminary investigation reveals Ashbaugh was shot by an acquaintance during horseplay, according to Sgt. Scott White. The investigation is still ongoing and is being conducted by The State Highway Patrol’s Drug and Crime Control Unit. No arrests have been made when authorities arrived on scene.

The gathering started at 7 p.m., with many community members dressed in camouflage in his honor.

ABC 17 News was there and spoke with one of Ashbaugh’s fellow church members, Bill Stahl, who said, “he was a young man that enjoyed hunting and fishing and just enjoyed being a teenager.”
