Seven die in vehicle crashes over 2016 Memorial Day weekend

Seven people died on Missouri state roads over Memorial Day weekend, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. None of those deaths happened in Mid-Missouri.

The counting period started May 27 at 6 p.m., and ended May 30 at 11:59 p.m. During that time, state troopers responded to nearly 350 crashes, in which 128 people were hurt. They also investigated six of the deadly crashes; police in Springfield investigated the seventh. In 2015, eight people died during the Memorial Day weekend.

During the counting period, troopers arrested 135 people for driving while intoxicated.

The Highway Patrol says there were no boating deaths during the holiday, though a young boy drowned in Barry County on Friday. Seven people were hurt in a total of 17 boating crashes. Troopers arrested 21 people for boating while intoxicated, as well as 71 people for drug-related charges.
