Most Boone County crime numbers down compared to last year

In light of recent shootings in Columbia, ABC 17 News wanted to see how the crime numbers so far this year compared to the same time-frame from last year.

ABC 17 News compared “Part One crimes” in Boone County from January 2015 through May of 2015 to January 2016 through May 29, 2016.

Only one crime category has more reports in the 2016 time-frame compared to the 2015 time-frame. Attempted rape reports went from 0 to 1.

Every other crime category decreased:
– Homicides went from 3 by this time in 2015 to 1 so far in 2016.
– Reported rapes decreased from 50 to 42.
– Robbery went from 59 to 41.
– Aggravated Assault went from 181 to 156.
– Reported burglaries decreased by 9, from 360 in the 2015 time-frame to 351 in 2016.
– Theft decreased from 1232 to 980.
– Motor Vehicle Theft decreased by 14 from 92 to 78.
– Arson decreased from 9 to 8.
– Violent crimes also went down from 293 to 241.
– Property crimes made the biggest jump from 1693 in the 2015 time-frame to 1417 so far in 2016.
