Highway Patrol investigating fatal shooting in Moniteau County
The Tipton Police Department was called to a home in the 400 block of Railroad Avenue around 11:20 Saturday night after receiving a call that someone had been shot.
Responding officers found Robert Ashbaugh, 18, dead from a single gunshot wound.
The State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is conducting the investigation into Asbaugh’s death at the request of Tipton Police Chief Edward Wiecken.
Preliminary investigation reveals Ashbaugh was shot by an acquaintance during horseplay with a gun, according to Sgt. Scott White.
No one else was hurt during the shooting. No arrests were made when officers arrived on scene Saturday night.
Ashbaugh’s autopsy is pending. His father tells ABC 17 News he was a junior at Calvary Lutheran High School in Jefferson City.
Friends & Family told ABC 17 news that Ashbaugh was on his schools track & cross country teams, in his free time he loved to fish and hunt.
Ashbaugh’s father spoke with ABC 17 news and says his son was gone too soon.
No memorial or candlelight vigil has been scheduled yet.
