Police: man fires at Columbia officer after moped stop
UPDATE:Public arrest records indicate that Officers of the Columbia Police Department have arrested a man on suspicion of multiple weapons related charges.
The records show police arrested 20-year-old Vincent Geshai Dawson.
Records show that Dawson was booked in the Boone County jail just before 4 Friday morning.
He was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, and armed criminal action.
ABC17 news has reached out to Columbia PD for details on this arrest and we will update this story as we learn more.
UPDATE: Columbia police confirmed a shooting took place on Quail Drive Thursday night after a routine traffic stop.
It happened when police pulled over a man on a moped. According to police, when the man got off the moped, he fired a single shot at police and ran away.
Officers blocked off the area and a helicopter was brought in for the manhunt.
Police received information during the search that the man was hiding in a home. That’s when the standoff happened in front of the home.
Officers spoke to the man on a loud speaker, and he eventually came out with his hands up.
Police confirmed no officers fired their weapons nor were hurt. They could not confirm if the suspect was injured nor if the home was his.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted in the search for the suspect.
ORIGINAL STORY, 8:08 p.m.: Multiple Columbia police officers are on the scene in the 2400 block of Quail Drive, responding to reports of shots fired.
Sylvan Lane and Nelwood Drive have been blocked off. A helicopter is also on scene.
One person has been detained.
ABC 17 News crews on the scene see officers with weapons drawn. It appears to be a standoff situation.
