Similar reports show shots fired in possible home burglaries

COLUMBIA, Mo-Boone County deputies were called this morning, when a homeowner fired his gun after seeing a suspicious shadow.

They searched the area just west of Midway, but didn’t find any signs of forced entry.

After seeing the story, a viewer called ABC17, claiming a similar incident happened to her in Millersburg.

She noticed a suspicious figure in her yard and woke up her husband. He proceeded to go outside and fire his gun into the air, which scared off the intruder. The Callaway County Sheriff’s department said they were unable to find the suspect on the property.

Callaway County’s Lieutenant Clay Chism says to lower chances of a home invasion is to always be prepared. “We always recommend good lighting, alarm systems if appropriate and more than anything just good knowledge of the property.”

If homeowners are not sure if a burglar is on their property, Chism says to always err on the side of caution and call 9-1-1.
