May weather in Mid-Missouri

May tends to be a warm and rainy month in Mid-Missouri with close to 5 inches of rain on average. The wettest May on record was back in 1943 with 13.30 inches rain that month but the driest was in 1901 with only .35 inches for the entire month. Last year we came in with 5.68 iinches rain in May.

Daylight continues to increase as we head toward the summer solstice and we will gain another 52 minutes this month with sunset at 8:28 on the 31st.

Temperatures continue to rise with the average low at 58 degrees and high at 79 degrees by the 31st. The highest temperature recorded in May was in 1934 when we hit 101 degrees but the coldest is 28 in 1907.

The 30 day outlook for May 2016 from the Climate Prediction Center puts Mid-Missouri in near average temperatures and slightly below average precipitation for the month. Although we are getting off to a dry start to May this year, stormy weather looks likely around the 8th as a strong storm system approaches.
