Candlelight vigil for man who died on Sylvan Lane

A candlelight vigil was held on Thursday night for Garbrielle Rhodes, the 24 year old man who was killed on Sylvan Lane on Monday night.

Rhodes was a father who leaves behind three children.

According to Marla Buchanan, Garbrielle Rhodes aunt, Rhodes was living in St. Louis, and just moved to Columbia about a week ago before he was killed.

Buchanan told ABC 17 that Garbrielle Rhodes was in the wrong place at the wrong time and wasn’t the intended target of the shooting.

Several dozen family members, residents, neighbors gathered to show their support to the family. Family members described Rhodes as ,” a man who would always make you laugh even if you didn’t want to.”

At the end of the vigil Elmo balloons were released into the sky in memory of Garbrielle Rhodes.
